SomemembersoftheEuropeanParliament(MEPs)onTuesdaycalledontheEuropeanUnion(EU)memberstatestodevelopanautonomouspolicytowardChinaindependentfromtheUnitedStatesandseekcooperationratherthanconfrontationwithBeijing.
BRUSSELS,April18(Xinhua)--SomemembersoftheEuropeanParliament(MEPs)onTuesdaycalledontheEuropeanUnion(EU)memberstatestodevelopanautonomouspolicytowardChinaindependentfromtheUnitedStatesandseekcooperationratherthanconfrontationwithBeijing.
TheEuropeanParliamentonTuesdayheldaplenarysessioninStrasbourgon"theneedforacoherentstrategyforEU-Chinarelations,"whichcameaftersomeEuropeanleaders,includingSpanishPrimeMinisterPedroSanchez,FrenchPresidentEmmanuelMacronandEuropeanCommissionPresidentUrsulavonderLeyenvisitedChinainrecentweeks.
"AftervisitingChina,FrenchPresidentMacrondeclaredthatEuropeneedsmorestrategicautonomyandshouldnotbeavassaloftheUnitedStatesofAmerica.Idon"ttendtoagreewithEmmanuelMacron,butthistimeIthinkhewasrightbecausethecurrentEuropeanpolicymakesnosenseandisdestroyingEurope,"saidnon-attachedSlovakMEPMilanUhrikatthedebate.
